Sophie’s grandfather worked as a veterinarian in Starkville, Mississippi, and little Sophie was his shadow every time she would visit—some of her fondest memories are of tagging along on house or barn calls and spending time in his clinic. Sophie’s early experiences with animal care left her with no doubt: a career in the veterinary world was her true calling!
Sophie grew up in Huntington Beach, California, and moved to Marietta, Georgia during her teenage years. Her veterinary journey started at an animal clinic in Rincon, Georgia; Sophie worked only two shifts in the kennel before the owner saw her potential. He immediately started training her to become a Veterinary Technician, and Sophie cared for the area’s pets there for the next eight years.
Sophie chose to leave her job in order to focus on her son’s hectic sport schedules and the two flooring companies that she and her husband own, but once her kids headed off to college and things had settled down with her company duties, she made a decision: it was time for her to return to doing what she loved the most! Sophie reached out to Dr. Holcombe, interviewed, and joined the team shortly afterward.
Medically, Sophie has special passions for cancer awareness, client education, and preventative care. Most of all, she loves the relationships she forms with the clinic’s clientele—she’s proud to call many of them her personal friends.
Sophie and her husband, Jon, have two wonderful sons: Nick graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in aerospace engineering and currently works for the world’s preeminent aerospace software company; Zach will soon graduate from the University of Alabama and hopes to attend medical school in the near future. The family shares their lives with four dogs—Bruizer, Tyson, Tank, and Jack—as well as various feral cats who live in the air-conditioned “cat condo” in the backyard.
When she isn’t spending time with family or caring for pets here at Faulkville Animal Hospital, Sophie enjoys traveling to the Caribbean, snorkeling and scuba diving, cheering on her favorite college and professional football teams, working in the yard, and walking her dogs around the neighborhood.
